WASHINGTON, DC - Patrick Mara declared his candidacy today for an At-Large seat on the District of Columbia Council. Mara, a ten year District resident with a history in Republican politics, is challenging Councilmember Carol Schwartz in the Republican primary.

Mara, a former U.S. Senate staffer to John Chafee (R- RI) and current Manager of Government Relations at ML Strategies in Washington, DC, has been involved in shaping public policy for more than ten years. He plans to put that experience to work for the residents of the District of Columbia.

According to Mara, "If elected, my first priority will be to work with the Mayor to continue the aggressive reform of our school system. I will also work hard to end the District's anti-business climate and bring strong economic growth to our city."

This is Mara's first run for public office. Mara has worked on ten Republican campaigns and is a District of Columbia alternate delegate for John McCain to this summer's Republican National Convention.

Mara is in the process of putting together a campaign team and will likely open headquarters in the next several weeks. If you would like to speak with the candidate, you can call him at (202) 276-5859, or email him at patrick@patrickmara.com.
